With the Reds off to an embarrassing 2-12 start, fans are getting restless, letting their frustration out amid Cincinnati’s longest losing streak in six years. A trio of fans made their displeasure known by wearing brown paper bags over their heads during Friday night’s game, lamenting the Reds’ early struggles while urging longtime owner Bob Castellani to sell his controlling stake in the team.

That stunt apparently didn’t go over too well with a stadium official quickly jumping in to interrupt their interview with sports anchor Caleb Noe of WCPO, a local ABC affiliate in Cincinnati. The employee demanded the fans remove their head coverings, spelling an abrupt end to their silent protest.

As if morale wasn’t already low enough, Cincinnati dropped its series opener against St. Louis, extending the Reds’ drought to 10 straight games without a victory. Owners of an 83-79 record last season (good for third in the NL Central), the Reds have yet to win at home this year, losing each of their three contests at Great American Ballpark. Cincinnati’s lone playoff appearance in the last eight years came during the COVID-shortened 2020 season, qualifying as one of five National League Wild Card teams.

The Reds have been an unmitigated disaster, but at least Cincinnati still has Skyline Chili and Joe Burrow.
