On Thursday, Mark Zuckerberg made a major announcement that Facebook Inc. would be changing its name to Meta Platforms Inc., or Meta for short.

This sounded awfully familiar to plenty of sports fans on social media.

Ten years ago, the NBA star formerly known as Ron Artest legally changed his name to Metta World Peace, where “Metta” became his first name.

He actually changed his name again in 2020 to Metta Sandiford-Artest, keeping “Metta” as his first name but combining his original last name with his wife’s last name.

Naturally, this led to a plethora of jokes and memes from the Twitter crowd.

(some Twitter videos contain NSFW language)

Sandiford-Artest actually did repair his image a bit following his own name change, becoming an advocate for mental health.

It seems like Facebook, er, Meta, has an awful lot more to overcome to see if it will work for them.
