A north suburban animal shelter is coming to the rescue of dogs in Texas as that state experiences prolonged bitter cold and power outages.
Christy Anderson, the executive director of Wright-Way Rescue in Morton Grove, said the organization hopes to bring as many as four vans with 30 dogs each from shelters in and around Dallas.
She said normally shelters down there keep dogs in outdoor kennels because of the warmer weather.
“Not only were they unable to care for the animals because of their housing setup, but people were also bringing additional animals into them at an alarming rate because they were not equipped to handle animals outside in these conditions, either,” Anderson said.
Anderson said there's much work to do once the dogs arrive at her shelter.
In addition to finding new homes for the dogs, the shelter is seeking donations because the costs of the rescue operation could exceed $62,000.
