It's about time.
The Washington Capitals power play woes came to a thunderous end when Alex Ovechkin (because... who else?) smashed a drive from the left hand-side circle (because... from where else?) to snap a drought of nearly 90 minutes of wasted power play time.
#Caps equalize as that Alex Ovechkin guy scores again. #ALLCAPS pic.twitter.com/uzZCNovw7J
— 106.7 The Fan (@1067theFan) April 19, 2019Finally.
Ovechkin's blast (with assists from Dmitry Orlov and Lars Eller) was his second of these Stanley Cup Playoffs and 63rd postseason goal of his career, which moves him into a tie for 26th most in NHL history. Washington's goal canceled out Warren Foegele's opener after just 17 seconds.
Some would say... "They were due."
The #Caps have not scored a goal in over 88+ minutes. They have not scored on the power play in any of their last 11 chances. I'd say they are due. What say you?
— Grant Paulsen (@granthpaulsen) April 19, 2019Alex Ovechkin played for 3:03 in a row, spanning the power play and the 6-on-5 shift before that.Yes, he had a TV timeout but to have that kind of juice on his shot from the office, is pretty freaking impressive. #Caps
— Chris Russell (@Russellmania621) April 19, 2019But a blast of this quality was worth the long wait.
alex, you're in charge of the power play from this point forward
— Michael Jenkins (@JenksNBCS) April 19, 2019This has to be a frightening position to be in. No stick, just you and your body in front of an Ovechkin one-timer on the power play pic.twitter.com/HZI3kbfg42
— Neil Greenberg (@ngreenberg) April 19, 2019The drought is over! #ALLCAPS

— NBC Sports Capitals (@NBCSCapitals) April 19, 2019Death. Taxes. Ovi from the left wing on the PP. #ALLCAPS
— David Anthony (@Run_DAC22) April 19, 2019However, the Caps failed to get out of the second period unscathed. A defensive lapse from Brooks Orpik, who grabbed the game-winner in Game 2, with under a minute to play in the period led to the Canes' 2nd goal of the night and put Carolina 20 minutes away from evening the series at 2-2.
Defensive mistake costs #Caps at the 19:32 mark of the 2nd period. Capitals have 20 minutes to turn it around in Raleigh. #ALLCAPS pic.twitter.com/VvXFznA6oU
