Earning an All-Star or Pro Bowl designation is the highest personal accolade in professional sports. In team sports, it is the one opportunity to be judged solely on your own merit.

It doesn't hurt if it comes with a little paycheck boost as well.

Forbes went through the publicly available information in MLB All-Star player contracts to determine if players got a bonus for appearing in the All-Star Game. Generally speaking, these types of contract clauses are determined by the team and are reserved for veteran players. Rookies typically play on contracts that are very limited in terms of complicated clauses.

Both Washington Nationals stars Max Scherzer and Bryce Harper have All-Star designation clauses in their contracts, each worth $100,000 for participating in the Midsummer Classic. That's pretty good, considering that all All-Star players combined for just $1.2 million in total All-Star bonuses.

It's unclear if Sean Doolittle, who was selected for the game but will not appear due to injury, had a similar clause in his contract.
