A major penalty opened the door for the Washington Capitals to take over early in Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Columbus winger Josh Anderson was assessed a five-minute major, and ejected on a game misconduct penalty, for boarding Caps defender Michal Kempny in the first period.
