A major penalty opened the door for the Washington Capitals to take over early in Game 1 of their opening-round playoff series against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus winger Josh Anderson was assessed a five-minute major, and ejected on a game misconduct penalty, for boarding Caps defender Michal Kempny in the first period.

April 13, 2018 Less than a minute later, Kuznetsov put another goal past Columbus netminder Sergei Bobrovsky, giving the Caps a commanding 2-0 lead heading into first intermission, with another two-plus minutes still remaining on the power play.
