The Capitals announced they've re-signed left winger Jakub Vrana to a two-year, $6.7 million contract worth an average annual value of $3.35 million.

"Jakub is a highly skilled player with a tremendous upside and is a big part of our future," GM Brian MacLellan said in the announcement. "We are pleased with his development the past two seasons and are looking forward for him to continue to develop and reach his full potential with our organization."

Vrana, 23, set career highs in goals (24), assists (23) and points (47) for the Capitals last season and ranked third on the team in goals.

Vrana, a restricted free agent, was drafted by the Capitals in the first round – 13th overall – in the 2014 NHL Draft.
