It's all happened so quickly.
Within a span of 17 days, the Washington Capitals have won the Stanley Cup (June 7), paraded it down Constitution Ave. (June 12), accepted their head coach's resignation (June 18) and seen him take over a new team (June 21).
On Friday, they traded away Brooks Orpik and Philipp Grubauer, netting a second-round draft pick (Kody Clark) and clearing enough salary cap space to re-sign cornerstone defenseman John Carlson on Sunday.
Gina Carlson took to Instagram to express her own whirlwind over the last year, as her free agency-bound husband (and family) faced an uncertain future, and her profound gratitude that it's finally come to a peaceful resolution.
"For the last year, I convinced myself home would be wherever I was with my boys," she wrote. "In truth, home started 7 years ago, a scorching hot summer night when I met John here in D.C."

While fans wondered whether the Caps could find the money to re-sign Carlson, his wife revealed on Instagram that, in secret, they purchased land in the D.C. area a few months back in hopes of building "the southern home & big front porch we've always dreamed of having together."
Now they can. The whirlwind is over. And the ride continues.
