Well, that didn't last long.
Mike Trout is finalizing a 12-year contract worth more than $430 million with the Angels, Jeff Passan reported Tuesday. The deal would shatter the record set by Bryce Harper when he signed his 13-year, $330 million deal with the Phillies on February 28, 19 days prior.

— Bill Shaikin (@BillShaikin) March 19, 2019Like Harper's contract, there are reportedly no opt-outs in Trout's deal, killing Harper's hopes of recruiting Trout to the Phillies.
At least two D.C. radio hosts, 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier, were very pleased by the news.
"The whole plan for (Harper) was, 'I got to be the record-holder,'" said Paulsen. "And he thought, 'I'll be the record-holder until Mike Trout re-signs, at the earliest maybe next offseason. His record won't even last 'til Opening Day!"
"He gave up the opt-outs, he have up three extra years of control, he went 13 years -- which no had done before -- so that he could get to $330 million because nobody had been there and it topped Giancarlo Stanton by $5 million. And then Mike Trout comes along and gets $100 million more and one less year."
"It makes Bryce look so small," Rouhier said. "That's what was the most important thing, and now it's gone, taken from him less than three weeks in. I love this news so much, I'm basking in it."
