Brian Mitchell rode his bike 100 miles over the weekend for a great cause

Brian Mitchell racked up a lot of miles as a kick returner in his NFL career – but this weekend, he racked up a bunch on his bike, riding from Arlington, Virginia, up to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on two wheels.

That’s quite a ride, about 100 miles to be exact, but why did BMitch do that? Well, Jon Brideau, president of World Team Sports, actually put together the ride, which brought adaptive athletes and able-bodied athlete together to raise money for a great cause.

“We were lucky to celebrate our 18th annual Face of America bike ride up to Gettysburg,” Brideau said. We had 350 riders raising over $750,000 to support our adaptive veteran athletes, and really our organization is all about bringing together adaptive and able-bodies athletes for a common goal to complete a challenge.”

People with various disabilities came in from all over the country to join the ride, which is special in its nature.

“Our organization is different because we built our mission around wanting to have inclusive events, where able-bodied athletes could get just as much out of the challenge as adaptive athletes,” Brideau said. “We want people to have that challenge and camaraderie together, and that’s what brings people back.”

BMitch is trying to get JP Finlay to join next year’s ride, although apparently, someone pledged $100 per mile for JP to ride 20 miles, and that $2000 will be given to Mitchell’s cause – adding to the $31,286 BMitch raised on the ride as the group’s leading fundraiser.

“Just an amazing accomplishment, and I can’t thank all of the supporters enough, because these guys really pulled the lion’s share for us,” Brideau said of Mitchell and his team.
