The Capitals announced the signings of forwards Henrik Borgstrom and Dylan Strome on Thursday night.
Both come to Washington by way of Chicago, with Borgstrom signing a one-year, two-way contract ($750,000/$400,000) and Strome signing a one-year, $3.5 million contract, Caps GM Brian MacLellan announced.
Borgstrom, 24, recorded seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) in 52 games for the Blackhawks in 2021-22. The 6-foot-3, 199-pound forward set a single-season career high in games played and penalty minutes (22). He previously played in Finland in 2020-21, recording 21 points (11 goals, 10 assists) in 30 games for HIFK of the Finnish Liiga.
Borgstrom was selected by the Florida Panthers in the first round (23rd overall) in 2016. He recorded a career-high 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in 50 games with the Panthers during the 2018-19 season, his first meaningful playing time in the NHL.
Strome, 25, recorded 48 points (22 goals, 26 assists) in 69 games for the Blackhawks in 2021-22. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward set a single-season career high in goals and games played while averaging a career-best 17:26 time on ice last season. He ranked third on the team in goals and fourth in assists and points.
Strome was selected by the Arizona Coyotes with the third overall pick in 2015. He recorded a career-high 57 points (20 goals, 37 assists) in 78 games with Arizona and Chicago during the 2018-19 season. He's recorded 170 points (67 goals, 103 assists) in 273 career NHL games.
The Mississauga, Ontario native has represented Canada at the 2019 World Championship, where he earned a silver medal, and at the 2017 and 2016 World Junior Championships, earning a silver medal in 2017. He was teammates with Connor Brown, whom the Caps acquired in a trade with Ontario this week, while playing for the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) during the 2013-14 season.
