Less than two months after undergoing open heart surgery, Henrik Lundqvist is back on the ice.

The former Rangers superstar goaltender, who signed with the Capitals this past offseason, shared a video of him working out in full pads, facing shots from up close in his new Washington gear.

“The best type of workday!” Lundqvist wrote as a caption when sharing the video on social media.

Lundqvist announced in December that he would be missing the 2020-21 season due to a heart condition, and thanked the Capitals in a video message that same day. He announced later that month that he would need open heart surgery for an aortic valve replacement, and underwent the procedure in early January.

The 38-year-old continued to update his progress through social media, leaving the hospital on Jan. 14 and going through his early rehab process in New York City.
Last week, he announced that a checkup with his doctor had gone well, and six days later, Lundqvist was in full gear, back in the crease.

Lundqvist has played his entire 15-year career with the Rangers before he was bought out of the final year of his contract. This season would have been the first time Lundqvist took the ice in the NHL in a sweater other than the Rangers.
