The Caps have a knack for scoring in bunches

The Capitals offense has managed two four-goal periods in each of their past two games, both victories, against the LA Kings and New Jersey Devils, respectively. They also had a four-goal third period in an Oct. 17 victory over the Vancouver Canucks.

"I think we're just finally starting to put them in the back of the net," Caps center Dylan Strome told 106.7 The Fan's Grant Paulsen and Danny Rouhier, which is presented by presented by Mainstreet Bank.

"I think we had our chances in the first couple games that didn't go our way, and hit some posts and there was some great goaltending from the other teams," Strome said. "So, finally starting to go in and it feels good when you seem to be able to score in bunches, which is always a good thing. Got to keep it going, a tough road trip and a lot of good teams, so it's a good test for us."

"What's that like to be part of that?" Rouhier asked. "I imagine it feels like every time you flip a puck towards the net you're half-expecting it to go in. That's kind of amazing this early in the season."

"Yeah, it's been rare for sure," Strome said. "I think we'd like to spread it out a bit more and maybe not be down and have to get four in a period."

In last Saturday's 4-3 win over the Kings, the Caps scored all four of their goals in the third period after trailing the entire way before that.

"No, anytime you can get goals in bunches, I think momentum's a big thing in hockey like it is in most sports," Strome said. "And when you get one, and maybe the goalie's a bit shaky on the other team, and you get two and then our crowd's into it, you kind of just pile it in from there. It's been a fun season so far. Lots of momentum swings and like I said, big road trips, so we'll need some of those this trip for sure."

The Capitals (4-3-0) face off against the Dallas Stars (4-2-1) Thursday night.
