Sports Junkies: Is scoring drought dooming Alex Ovechkin's quest for all-time goals record?

Alex Ovechkin still sits at just eight goals on the season, a far cry from the 42 he netted last season. the 38-year-old has led the league in goals seven times since 2013, and currently is exactly 100 tallies behind Wayne Gretzky for the most all time.

But given his age and his drastic drop-off in goals this season, can Ovechkin still retire as the goal scoring king?

Most of the Junkies believe he can.

"He's gonna get the record, it's just gonna take an extra year. He's not retiring," EB said. "Barring a catastrophic injury, he's going to get the record. It's just a matter of time.

"He'll be completely gray and look like Santa Claus out there."

JP agreed, and believes Ovechkin will break the record with the Capitals, and won't stop until he does.

"There's no scenario where Ted Leonsis is just gonna let him walk away 20 or 30 goals short of the record," JP said. "He's gonna break that record in a Caps sweater."
