Ted Leonsis issued a letter Thursday to Wizards and Capitals fans giving thoughts on the prospective move to Virginia, basically ‘delving into a lot of the FAQs of it’ – and Danny, at least, had issue with one of the complaints that was addressed.
“You can think of what the complaints have been, and there are some legitimate reasons to dislike this, but the ones I don’t have any sympathy for boil down to, ‘I don't feel like going to Virginia because I never have,’” Danny said. “I don't really have sympathy for that. I know a lot of the Maryland fans, we were kind of surprised at that, and a lot of folks in DC have sort of expressed that…again, I don't have a ton of sympathy there.”
“I do - if you're a season ticket holder in Gaithersburg and it's now going to be it a lot harder to get the games and either you're not going to be a season ticket holder anymore or it's gonna ruin your experience, totally have sympathy,” Grant, Virginia native, replied. “But, it’s not a reason that he shouldn't move to Virginia where they're going to have more space and a better facility, where he's getting more money from the Commonwealth and literally everything about the experience of having a home improves.”
Yes, Danny admits, there are some places in Maryland that were much easier commutes to Chinatown than Alexandria, which he admits, especially in terms of public transport, but…
“I don't have sympathy for people that are just literally throwing a tantrum going, ‘I'm not going to Virginia’ for whatever reason, right?” Danny said. “But you can’t fix that. But the other complaints, I thought he did a pretty good job trying to address those. Like it or not, these are pretty compelling reasons to make the case.”
Grant thought it was interesting when he Tweeted out a link that 44 percent of Caps and Wizards attendees were from Virginia, and he’s still getting some hate for it?
“People are livid! Now, the Virginia people who like this are not gonna waste time probably tweeting to say this is awesome,” Grant said.
“The people that are going to comment normally are generally against things, but it's just pretty clear that for a lot of folks, DC and Maryland, the anger has not subsided in the weeks since the announcement.”
Danny went through the five major points of Leonsis’ letter, and the guys gave their takes – listen to it all above!
