SEC Network analyst and former Washington wideout Chris Doering joined the Junkies once again on Tuesday morning after checking out Florida’s Pro Day and seeing the phenom Anthony Richardson in action.
“He’s the highest risk, highest reward pick that I can remember in the Draft in the last few years,” Doering said of Richardson. “He’s a physical freak for sure, and you can look at the Combine numbers that were ridiculous, but the question is that he hasn’t started a ton of games at the college level and he frustrates some folks in regards to being a leader.”
Richardson has already reportedly met with six teams, including five in the Top 10, but the interesting one is the Ravens, who have the No. 22 pick and a quandary with their current QB1 Lamar Jackson.
Carolina, who has the No. 1 pick, is also one of those teams, but in Doering’s mind, he shouldn’t even be a consideration for that selection.
“Bryce Young should be the No. 1 pick,” Doering stated emphatically.
“He is the most ready to go in and give you a return on investment. He’s been absolutely fantastic at Alabama with what I believe to be less than Alabama-like supporting talent. He raises the play of those around him.”
Will Young’s size work against him, though?
“I know the question has become his durability with his slight weight, but I don’t think his size is an issue – just look at Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray,” Doering said. “I think the question is how durable he is, but I’ve seen him take big hits and also find a way to miss the big hits as well. He can make guys miss and not take square hits, and I think his one freak injury he had came just from trying to make a play.”
Doering also had some thoughts on Kentucky’s Will Levis and a name he brought up as a sleeper QB who could move up in drafts, so take a listen above.
And, later in the show, EB also broke down C.J. Stroud, who could be the No. 2 pick if Young is No. 1, so give that a listen as well:
