Junkies: Rebuilding Nationals 'just punted' after World Series run

The Nationals seemingly hit a low in their current rebuild on Monday night, drawing just over 10,500 fans to Nationals Park, the second lowest attendance number in team history.

In the eyes of the Junkies, the lack of a turnout shows the current lack of interest in a team that seems to be set for another lost season, a far cry from when they were atop the baseball world just four short years ago.

“Since that championship, It does seem like they reached their pinnacle and they just punted,” EB said.

“In the back of my mind, I was hoping this would be their Orioles year, where everyone was sleeping on them. It’s not gonna be that.

“Sometimes early in the season, you can give teams a pass because of the colder weather and kids are in school, but to bring just 10,000 on opening week is a brutal number,” EB added. “It’s the fanbase saying, ‘we’re fed up with the product you’re putting out there?’”

The Nationals are working on stockpiling their farm system while locking up young talent like Keibert Ruiz, but that is doing little to produce wins on the field, and the Junkies agree that there has to be a deadline where the team begins investing in the present and to try and win again. But this does not seem to be one of those years.

“How many years do you give a team that wins a World Series, and then they’ve got all these high-priced free agents to be that you know they can’t keep them all, how many years do you give them to rebuild?” EB asked.

The Junkies agreed in a 3-5 year window, which will be nearing the end sooner than later.
