The Washington Nationals are making the most of their selling position.
After reaching a (as of this writing) tentative deal with the Dodgers to trade Max Scherzer and Trea Turner for a haul of prospects, the Nationals have now traded outfielder Kyle Schwarber to the Boston.
The Nationals receive 20-year-old right-handed pitching prospect Aldo Ramirez in return.
Ramirez, who signed with the Red Sox out of the Mexican League at 16 years old in 2018, is 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA in eight starts for Low-A Salem in 2021.
He has 32 strikeouts to eight walks with one home run allowed in 31 innings pitched, and has recorded 14 consecutive scoreless innings over his last three starts. Ramirez is the No. 19 prospect in Boston's minor league system.
Schwarber, 28, is the owner of the hottest home run streak in baseball history, achieved in a major bounceback season with the Nationals in 2021.
Schwarber hit .253 (.910 OPS) with nine doubles, 25 homers and 53 RBI in 72 games for the Nationals this season.
The Red Sox are clearly high on Schwarber, who is currently still on the Injured List with a hamstring injury he sustained in early July.
With 25 home runs, 53 RBI, a .253 average and .910 OPS, Schwarber was a late addition to the 2021 National League All-Star Team, the first appearance in the mid-summer classic of his career.
