With Russell Wilson now in Denver, the Seattle Seahawks are in the market for a starting quarterback, and could have their sights set on acquiring Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans.
According to longtime NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of the Pro Football Network, Seattle is "expected to explore trade scenarios for the three-time Pro Bowl passer" in Watson.
The Seahawks received quarterback Drew Lock, a certifiable placeholder at best, from the Broncos in the Wilson deal. But Seattle's now armed with a war chest of draft capital, after also acquiring two first-round picks and two seconds from Denver in the trade.
Watson has not played since the 2020 season, sitting out last season while 22 civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct loomed, and after requesting to be traded by the Texans.
There has been interest in trading for Watson, but no team has ultimately been willing to take on a player with unresolved sexual misconduct allegations.
On Friday, a Harris County grand jury will consider whether to bring charges against Watson, who has also been under investigation by the Houston Police Department.
Clarity in the criminal side of this could have a domino effect on the civil side, which could open the door for a trade.
But given how slowly the legal process can move, and with the NFL Draft beginning April 28, there is still a chance Watson remains on this team for the foreseeable future.
