By George, have we cracked the code?
A caller joined Grant & Danny today and said he is ‘high on the jersey numbers the Commanders give out,’ just like Grant Paulsen, and this is what his investigation has found:
“If you noticed, the kicker we signed, he always wore number 10, but they didn't give out number 10…do you think that gives you some kind of hint that they're gonna go after Drake Maye?”
Okay, so he was right, Brandon McManus took No. 3 when the Commanders announced their new jersey numbers yesterday, and GP was intrigued.
“Conspiracy theory! Can I get the X-Files song, please, Darris?” Grant said. “Jayden Daniels wore No. 5, which is Tress Way’s number – I should have asked him on the Caps Alt-Cast last night if he would sell Daniels the number.”
“I’d like to know what Tressler’s price would be like,” Danny laughed back. “Here comes the rookie bonus baby, second overall pick, you want my jersey number, what's it gonna cost you?”
So the caller thinks there’s something afoot, except…
“I see McManus wearing No, 8 in Denver, so there's a chance he's one of those ‘I don't care what my number is’ guys, which is very rare in sports,” GP said. “But he wore No. 10 in Jacksonville.”
“Maybe he changes his number every time,” Danny replied.
Maybe, but the Commanders’ official roster also has Kaz Allen, who was here last year, as No. 10, so poor caller is at least 0-for-1, if not 0-for-2, on conspiracies.
But hey, it did give GP the chance to note this:
“Did you see Kirk Cousins didn't keep his No. 8 in Atlanta? He went to 18, and I guess it sounds like he would have had to buy out all of the Kyle Pitts jerseys in circulation, so he was like, ‘nah, I'm good, I've only made a couple hundred mil, I’ll put my money in the market, let it go to work.’”
