A Junkies hypothetical: if Commanders change head coaches, would you want Bill Belichick (if available) or Eric Bieniemy?

So let's say the Commanders finish .500 or so again, Ron Rivera and his staff are all let go by new ownership, and in the search for a new football operations group, Bill Belichick becomes available after a disastrous season in New England.

You in on bringing the former HC of the NEP on board?

That was the Junkies Twitter poll of the day Thursday – and while the first 1,900 voters were 75-25 on no, it seems as if the Junkies are in the same boat.

"My sense is people are going to be more in your department and Jason's department that they don't want the old head," JP said.

"I would have taken him a few years ago, but I think not having Brady has exposed him," EB replied.

Ben in Silver Spring called in and agreed with that, preferring a coach ready to rebuild in today's NFL (perhaps giving Eric Bieniemy a shot), and that led into an interesting discussion between the three Junks and the caller about how this year may be a bit of a preseason for Bieniemy to learn about Sam Howell, and the a Junks discussion about EB as a whole and the power of an offensive head coach?

Well, back to Belichick…

"Yes, Brady deserves most of the credit, but those first couple of Super Bowls…it's not that Brady was bad, but he was more of a game manager back then and they were led by the defense," JP said. "It wasn't like Brady was throwing for five touchdowns a game back then."

Here's caller Gary's take:

"The Patriots probably got more out of the draft than any other team. They worked the draft, the third, fourth, and fifth rounds, and those guys came in and played for them and they would just keep recycling them, and if they were good, they would keep them, and if they couldn't, they wouldn't. I really believe he would be a great GM. But as the head coach, no."

And then back to Bieniemy…

"People love Bieniemy, but I don't think they really even look at the results," JP said.

"I haven't been super impressed yet, but I like his enthusiasm," EB said. "I think he's got a passion for it, I think he's locked in, I just wish he'd call some quicker developing stuff and coach around Sam Howell's fatal flaw."

Take a listen to the whole thing above, which includes a lot of thoughts from Drab in the producer booth as well!
