We know that until a move is made or someone other than the Commanders selects No. 1, there’s going to be speculation and discussion about Washington trading up to the top pick for Caleb Williams.
Well, here’s one person on record that DOESN’T want to see that happen: Barstool Nate.
Nate wrote a blog on Barstool Monday about NOT wanting to move up and re-unite Williams with Kliff Kingsbury, and laid it all out for BMitch & Finlay Tuesday:
“My blog is titled ‘In No World should the Commanders give up a historic haul for the No. 1 pick, and it’s pretty simple: it's because the NFL draft is still such a crapshoot and a coin flip that you would have to be so extremely positive is that Caleb Williams is day and night better than a Drake Maye to give up a historic haul to move up one spot for him,” Nate said.
Nate need only reference last year, where consensus was Bryce Young was the No. 1 guy, but C.J. Stroud was Rookie of the Year and led the Texans to a division title while Young’s Panthers had the worst record in the NFL.
“I'm not saying Bryce Young can't be good, it’s just we saw what Stroud is and if they could do it again, the Panthers would obviously – it’s just how positive can you really be that Caleb Williams is the next guy?” Nate said. “He very well could be, but there's no way of knowing, and where this team's at now, I don't think we can give up a historic haul for a crap shoot or coin flip for a guy that cries in the stands after losing a game.”
Nate doesn’t see why the Commanders would, let alone should, do it, and the Bears are doing their part to make the package attractive for other teams who might want Williams – but Washington shouldn’t bite.
“I don't think we will do it. A lot of teams that need a quarterback out there, it just can’t be us,” Nate said. “We can't be giving up three future first-round picks for a guy who might or might not be the guy when Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels are sitting there. You just can't do it.”
