Eric Dickerson tells BMitch & Finlay he 'hates' Commanders name but sees some pieces for the future

Eric Dickerson was a Ram, a Colt, a Raider, and a Falcon – two teams that played in Los Angeles when he did and later moved, and one team that had already moved. So he gets that, although he never had to experience a name change…and good thing, because as he told BMitch & Finlay on Friday, he ‘hates’ what his old rival Redskins have become.

“I still call them the Redskins…Commanders, I mean, I’m not in Washington, but I hate that name,” Dickerson said when asked if he’s watched the Commanders at all this year. “I have friends here in L.A. that are on the tribes and they love the name Redskins, but, you know, it’s a whole different thing.”

He has seen some action, but Dickerson’s not exactly loving what he’s seen out of the team, whatever their name is.

“I watched them early in the season, and they would play really hard but lose games, and they would be the team that I think they shouldn’t be,” Dickerson said. “Then the last couple weeks, man, they just fell off the map. When you’re watching the team that’s not playing good and losing, you don’t want to watch that anymore. I’ve seen some games, and some I was impressed with, and some I was like, ‘wow, this is a really bad football team.’”

But, he says, the Commanders do have some hope for the future, albeit not where many hope.

“I think they have some pieces, and that’s what it comes down to,” Dickerson said. “They have a pretty young team, but I don’t think they have the quarterback they're looking for, and you have to have that.”

Oh, and on the tip of not wanting to watch (or in this case, play for) losing teams?

“I look at Chase Young and trading him to San Francisco – I thought he was a great football player, but I’v been on those tams where you’re losing, and it's just no fun,” Dickerson said. “The guys around you aren’t playing hard or giving 100 percent and you're frustrated, in the sense it looks like you're not playing hard even though you are. And I'm not saying he wasn't, I thought he was, but when he got to San Francisco, he's a different player.”

Take a listen to Dickerson’s entire segment, where he gets into it with fellow former back BMitch about the roles (and usage) of RBs in today’s game, the evolution of offensive play, and more!
