BMitch & Finlay: Will Ron Rivera use Sean Payton's admission he was contacted by potential Commanders owners as fuel?

Remember, if you will, all the way back to February, when Sean Payton revealed that before he was hired by the Broncos, he was courted by the Commanders (who already had Ron Rivera in place), approached by more than one potential new ownership group trying to buy the team.

Seven months later, Rivera’s Commanders are headed west to face Payton’s Broncos on Sunday, and that staff has three ties to Washington football in Greg Manusky, Paul Kelly, and Ben Kotwika. How much will that knowledge, and all Payton had to say about the D.C. job be seen as ‘bulletin board material’ for the ‘Manders?

JP Finlay finds it hard to believe Rivera hasn’t at least heard Payton’s comments, but BMitch…yeah, he knows Rivera has, and will use it as fuel.

“One thing about athletes and coaches: they find anything they can to use as motivation,” Brian said. “When I was in college, if I stepped on the field and somebody told me they bet on No. 1, I’d do my best to be the best No. 1 on the field. I used that to motivate myself, and everyone who has played competitive sports has found something to get you in that zone.”
