BMitch & Finlay: Will you be angry as a fan if the Commanders win on Sunday?

Danny Rouhier had a ridiculous rant on Thursday night, saying that any fan who is rooting for the Commanders win is…well, we’ll sanitize it and say ‘wrong.’

But, it’s a legit question: should we be mad if the Commanders win this weekend and maybe hurt their draft position?

“People start talking about tanking in like Week 8, which is weird – like, the Rams were two games under .500 at one point, and now, they’re the sixth seed at 8-7,” JP Finlay said. “A football season is a living, breathing organism that ebbs and flows over four months, so when you talk tanking and draft position, you probably shouldn’t until Thanksgiving at least.”

“You shouldn’t even have it if you handle your business properly,” BMitch replied. “If you have it, it means you didn’t do the things you were supposed to do when you were supposed to be doing them. Losers have that kind of discussion.”

Well, when it’s Christmas and you’re 4-10, JP says you can definitely have it, although here’s the thing for the Commanders: Sunday vs.
the Jets is the easiest game left on their schedule, and as such their best chance to finish 5-12 instead of 4-13, because the Niners and Dallas are both fighting for a No. 1 seed and in the latter’s case, maybe still the division title at least.

“I don’t think anyone is touching the Panthers, which is in turn the Bears, for No. 1,” JP said. “Arizona and the Patriots with three wins, Arizona has the harder remaining schedule, and then Washington has four wins.”

But, are you in Danny’s camp on this Sunday, in that you just want to lose and get it over with, or do you want to see one more win this season to feel a little better?

“I’ll b frustrated, because this is a completely pointless game,” Landfill said. “There’s no benefit to winning. The Jets are terrible, and beating them doesn’t man your good, and a player performing well against them doesn’t mean anything. There’s no benefit to winning, so it seems like a typical Commanders move to go out there and do it.”

“Disappointed is probably not the word, maybe unfortunate is better,” Richmond John, a diehard fan and still in studio after the Junkies’ Holiday Show, added in. “Everybody always says picking in the Top 5, you can find somebody, but it would be an empty win for sure.”

That’s for the fans, but from the players’ perspective?

“I can’t ever fathom or get used to people trying to lose,” BMitch said. “It may not mean nothing to the position of the team overall, but they have some players on the team that this game means a lot to. They’ve lost 10 games already, they win this week and it’s like they’re in the desert and it started to rain.”

JP has a scenario where maybe, just maybe, a win could mean something to the fans.

“The Jets have a really good defense, so if the Commanders win and Howell looks really good and gets back on track, then I think it would matter,” JP said. “If they win like 9-6, then people can be mad, but if Howell balls out, it changes to focus of the draft pick, maybe – but this win could bump then down all the way to ninth in the draft, so that’s even worse.”
