JP Finlay had quite a few choice words Friday afternoon about the news that the Commanders lost two 2023 OTA days and Ron Rivera was fined $100K for violations of the NFL CBA during this year’s OTAs.

Well, former DC football legend Charles Mann joined JP on an abbreviated BMitch and Finlay Friday as well, and he echoed JP’s sentiment on the discipline.

“Are you kidding me?” Mann asked bluntly.

JP had mentioned during the show that someone had Tweeted him about it, referencing how Brian Mitchell always rails on the “t-shirts and panties” practices in the league – and Mann, who played in DC well before BMitch, can back up how much different the Joe Gibbs era was.

“Joe Gibbs’ greatest claim to fame, in his mind, is that when John Madden and Pat Summerall came to watch our practices on Fridays before they did our games, they said we practice harder than anyone in the league,” Mann said.

Of course, Mann noted that those sessions “probably shortened my career two or three years” so he doesn’t necessarily think it was good, but after shouting out Allen Iverson (we talkin’ about practice?), he had to note that indeed, practice is important.

“You have to practice the way you play, because you can’t just flip a switch when it’s time to play the game,” Mann said.
