The Commanders have hired Bobby Engram as wide receivers coach and made a few other staffing hires, the team announced on Thursday.
Engram replaces the outgoing Drew Terrell, who moved on to Arizona as the passing game coordinator/wide receivers coach on Jonathan Gannon's staff after two years as Washington's wide receivers coach.
Washington also announced the hiring of Shane Toub for offensive quality control and Reggie Howard for defensive quality control.
Engram is entering his 10th season coaching in the NFL after previously serving as the tight ends coach for the Ravens (2019-2021). Prior to that, he served as the wide receivers coach in Baltimore (2014-18). Engram began his coaching career as an offensive assistant for the San Francisco 49ers in 2011.
Engram served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the University of Wisconsin in 2022.
While in Baltimore in 2020, Engram contributed to an offense that scored the NFL's seventh-most points (29.3 points per game) and led the league in rushing (3,071 yards) for consecutive seasons. Tight ends were a major focal point of the Ravens' offense in 2019 when the team reached a franchise-best 14-2 record.
Engram played 14 seasons in the NFL (1996-2009) prior to entering the coaching ranks as a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks and Kansas City Chiefs. He was originally drafted as a second-round pick (52nd overall) out of Penn State in 1996.
Toub is entering his fifth season as an NFL coach, previously working for the Bears as a defensive quality control coach (2020-21) and offensive assistant (2018-19). He was a defensive quality control coach for the University of Kansas in 2022.
Howard is entering his first season as an NFL coach after previously serving as the co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for Campbell University in 2022. He was the defensive backs coach at Campbell in 2021.
