At the NFL Combine in early March, cornerback Emmanuel Forbes weighed in at 166 pounds. At Mississippi State, the 6-foot-1 Junior reportedly played at 170 pouds. After the Washington Commanders drafted Forbes with the 16th overall pick in the first round of the NFL Draft, they had him at 180 pounds.

"Weight is going to come over time," Forbes told reporters Thursday night after getting picked.

"I'm not going to stress about it, [the Commanders] didn't have a problem with it, that's why they drafted me," he added, "so I'm just going to enjoy it and just keep on being myself and trying to gain weight but be comfortable."

For their part, the brass in Washington didn't see Forbes' slight frame matter when scouting him.

"When you watch his tape you don't know that he's that light," general manager Martin Mayhew said. "He doesn't look like that on the tape. He doesn't play like that. He's been durable. he hasn't missed a game because of an injury in three years. Three year starter. So he's been durable in the SEC and he's played a lot of football. So, that's something that we don't really concern ourselves with."

Head coach Ron Rivera said he expects Forbes to put on more weight "as he continues to mature."

"I think he's a young man who, we gotta understand he's still growing," he said Thursday. "Again, he played in the SEC and did what he did. Is there a concern? No, I Don't have a concern just from watching his tape and watching who he played against."

Forbes doesn't seem to think it will hold him back and said it wasn't an issue with teams in the pre-draft process.

"Honestly, they didn't really care too much about my weight because I can play ball," he said. "That's all that matters and it never affected my game, so it really didn't play a factor."
