Looks like one Commanders preseason battle may be over, as the team cut kicker Jake Moody on Monday, per NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

The move leaves rookie Drew Stevens as the lone kicker in camp, ostensibly making him the de facto winner of the competition between he and Moody this summer.

Moody, 26, had played six games with the Commanders last year after signing off of Chicago’s practice squad, going 10-for 11 on field goals and 10-of-11 on PATs, but he struggled in camp and, in Friday’s preseason opener, hit the uprights on what was ultimately a successful 29-yard FG attempt.

Originally a third-round pick of the 49ers in 2023 after being an All-American at Michigan, Moody made 84 percent of his field goal attempts as a rookie, but he slipped to 70.6 percent in 2024 and was cut after going 1-for-3 in the Niners’ first game of 2025.

He signed with Chicago’s practice squad and elevated for two games, going 8-for-9 on field goals, and then signed with the Commanders as they continued their kicker shuffle.

However, it appears he, at least, has been beaten out for the job by Stevens, who was signed as an undrafted free agent after making 80 percent of his field goal attempts and being named a four-time All-Big Ten selection at Iowa.

The Commanders are hopeful that Stevens, or whomever may be the kicker Week 1, can being stability to a position that has seen seven different players attempt kicks in the Dan Quinn era – all after Brandon McManus, who was signed in Quinn’s first season, was hastily released after allegations of misconduct during his time in Jacksonville surfaced ahead of the 2024 campaign.
