Jayden Daniels reportedly wants more back from his alma mater than just the use of his name, image and likeness.
According to new reports, the Commanders quarterback has requested that LSU send him the copy of the Heisman Trophy that he won when with the school in 2023. According to LouisianaSports.net, the school has no intention of accommodating Daniels' request.
This latest bit of drama comes after ESPN released its report that Daniels' attorney sent a cease and desist letter to LSU, informing the school it can no longer use the quarterback's name, image and likeness after Daniels learned that Tigers sophomore quarterback DJ Pickett is wearing No. 5 this season, a number not worn by a member of the football team since Daniels.
The number has not been retired by the school.
Pickett wore No. 3 last season despite being promised he could wear No. 5 (his high school number) when he committed to the Tigers, and now that the wish is being granted, Daniels is seemingly not happy. Former head coach Brian Kelly told ESPN that Pickett was not given the No. 5 for his first season with LSU specifically because Daniels did not support it.
Joe Burrow, a national champion at LSU and the superstar at quarterback before Daniels, has not had his No. 9 retired by the school (at least not yet), but his number has yet to be given out again since that national championship-winning season.
The drama with Daniels' alma mater comes as he looks to rebound off of a disappointing sophomore season in the NFL, one that was mired by injury.
