Bids have been made for the Washington Commanders, but one of the richest men in the world is reportedly being kept out of the running.
The New York Post’s Josh Kosman reported Friday that Commanders owner Daniel Snyder “prevented” Jeff Bezos from “entering the private auction” despite the Amazon founder’s desire to participate.

A source closely watching the sale told Kosman of Snyder, “He’s an ass and he may not want to give it up.”
The Washington Post reported this week Bezos hired the investment firm Allen & Company "to evaluate a possible bid" for the Commanders. According to Kosman, the Amazon man had “for months” been working with the firm, which handled the two recent sales of the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos.
Kosman also reported on Friday that an “unidentified bidder” has entered the race with an offer of around $5.5 billion, which is below Snyder’s desired price of more than $6 billion.
Earlier this month, Kosman told The Team 980 that some bidders "may not believe, from what I understand, that the team is worth $6 billion." And that after the Broncos sold for less than $4.65 billion and the Commanders will need a new stadium with private financing, he believes those bidders are "hesitant about [Washington] being worth six."
The mystery bidder's $5.5 billion offer was “similar to the amount” offered by the one reported bidder, Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils owner Josh Harris, per Kosman's most recent report.
Harris, a Chevy Chase native, recently toured the team's facility, The Athletic reported. The Washington Post also reported Harris' visit and, said at least one other prospective buyer visited the team facility.
Kosman told Team 980’s Kevin Sheehan earlier in February that while Bezos had not submitted a bid, he has "long-wanted to buy the Washington football team.
While Snyder selling the franchise he bought for nearly $800 million in 1999 may still be up in the air, sources told Kosman a decision is expected to be made by the NFL owners meeting in late March.
