Aaron Rodgers is officially out for the season, and it’s the Zach Wilson show in New York…or so we think, as reports have the Jets already reaching out to veteran free agent quarterbacks that can either take the reins or be a more capable backup to Wilson than Tim Boyle.
Robert Griffin III, who was on-site at MetLife Stadium Monday as part of ESPN’s MNF crew, had one idea...RG3 himself?
Indeed, Grant & Danny played a clip of RG# naming himself as one free agent QB who can still play but would be a distraction in the locker room
“It’s true that the Jets can now go grab a Carson Wentz or a Cam Newton if they wanted to, but I'm not so sure about the Colin Kaepernick or Robert Griffin ideas. How many years has it been since RG3 played at a high level?” Grant asked. “Eleven years, right? And Colin Kaepernick has not played in the NFL in seven years. I can't believe we're still doing this in 2023 where a team suffers an injury and someone paid millions of dollars on national TV suggests that Colin Kaepernick, who had a sub-50 QBR in each of his final two seasons playing in the league, could be an option. I just thought that that was incredible specifically because he floated himself…do you know of any other analysts that do that?”
Grant mentioned how on WFAN Tuesday morning, Boomer Esiason said he would put the jersey on and suit up, but that was, like most analysts who have played before, a joke – but he doesn’t think RG3 was joking when he threw his name out there, maybe as a plea?
“That was something; the self-awareness attribute is not terribly high for his Madden score, it’s in the single digits,” Danny replied. “That was great theater and I was entertained. Maybe that was the whole point of the segment but goodness gracious. Did you see the faces of the other analysts while he was running through it?”
Grant did indeed, noting a meme video that has gone viral on social media of RG3 making those comments and the others in the frame making blank expressions…which led Danny to tell a story about how one of them, Domonique Foxworth, once had to deal with Mrs. Rouhier?
“Foxworth could be thinking about the time my wife hit his car and he decided not to involve insurance companies, which makes him a hero in my book,” Danny said. “She left a note with all the information, and he emailed her, and during the exchange, I asked her if she knew who it was – so she referenced it in the emails. Just a wonderful human being as far as I'm concerned, I'm team Foxworth all the way.”
Doesn’t sound like the guys are Team RG3 though – take a listen above to the whole convo!
