Monday morning, Logan Paulsen told the Sports Junkies that he could see Jahan Dotson exploding in 2023, saying he could see Dotson leading the team in catches while Terry McLaurin leads in yards.
"I think a lot of us are banking on a huge year, but out-performing Terry McLaurin in terms of catches, even if he doesn't average as many yards?" Grant asked. "He said there's a chance, based on usage."
"This was going to be my bold prediction or sneaky thing I called: Jahan Dotson will lead the team in receptions this year," Danny replied. "I do think McLaurin will have more yards, because he has more downfield skill-set, but Dotson is going to be more tempting for Eric Bieniemy to use close to the line of scrimmage. You flip it out to him, and he's basically a punt returner in space. McLaurin is going to run the outside, but I think Dotson catches more balls."
Grant thought Dotson was going to spend a lot of time in the slot last yar, but that usage was less than he expected – but to Danny's point, "when the season starts, maybe that's a look you see – but you have to remember that McLaurin has gone 87 for 1,100, 77 for 1,053, and 77 for 1,191, so to out-catch him, you're talking about 85 or so catches. Last year, he caught 35 passes on 61 targets in 12 games."
