ESPN NFL Draft insider Matt Miller was one of multiple draft analysts who joined Grant & Danny Monday for a little chat leading into Thursday's first round, focused on the quarterbacks at the top of the draft - and it seems as if he believes it's possivle one of the top four
"Yeah, I think it's definitely possible, and I'll go back to 2021 because it's a good parallel with five quarterbacks in the first round," Miller said. "We wondered how funny it would be if Mac Jones fell to the Patriots, because it was the worst-kept secret that they would draft him if he was there - and sure enough he was. I've been in this business long enough to know there are no guarantees; it's possible Anthony Richardson or Will Levis could fall to 16, but the other thing is how a team feels about Hendon Hooker, because I've talked to scouts who like him more than Richardson or Levis, so this could be a Wild Card that Hooker is the fourth quarterback taken."
And if not a QB? It looks like offensive tackle might be the best bet.
"Best case scenario, Ohio State's Parris Johnson is there, but the teams directly ahead of them all need tackles, so it could be interesting," Miller said. "Darnell Wright is a right tackle only, so I don't think that's the best fit, and Peter Skoronski is probably gone by then, but I think Broderick Jones from Georgia will be there. He started 17 games in college and that shows up at times where he looks like a saloon door, but there are other times where he's burying guys, so there will be some bumps in the road but he could start as a rookie."
Cornerback could also be a fit, with Miller thinking a local product might be the ideal target.
"You get down to Joey Porter Jr., who is much better in man coverage, and I wonder how similar he'd be to WIlliam Jackson," Miller said, "but Banks from Maryland is the guy who excites me. He's 6-foot-2 with 4.3 speed, and there's really not anything he's not capable of from a coverage standpoint, he just needs more reps. Athletically, I compared him to Byron Jones, and there's a lot to like about his athletic profile."
One thing Miller doesn't see happening, though, is the Commanders trading down, because No. 16 is just a tough spot this year.
"I think it will be very hard to move back; I was talking to some teams about the trade market, and everyone I talked to said no, there's no one you're going up to get this season," Miller said. "The teams that have done that in the past have learned a bad lesson - the Saints traded a future 1 to go up and get Marcus Davenport and they just let him walk. The quarterbacks and left tackles will be gone and there's only one wide receiver with a really high grade, and otherwise, the draft is deep at a lot of other positions. The best-case scenario might be if Hendon Hooker is still there, and someone wants to move up to make sure they get him."
