Montez Sweat threw some heavy shade at the Commanders this weekend, saying after the Bears’ win Sunday that Matt Eberflus and the locker room have kept their spirits up amidst a tough season, unlike DC where “it seemed like everyone was waiting for the season to end.”
The thing is, we know the culture in Ashburn is toxic at best, house is going to be cleaned in less than 30 days, and there’s really nothing to work towards at this point. But, is the problem more the timing than the problems themselves?
“What’s most startling about that, if you actually buy it, is that he has not been here in weeks,” Grant said. “So if it’s true that he experienced a locker room where guys were checking out, he was experiencing that in October, when they were still in it. He’s essentially saying that his teammates had kind of packed it up less than halfway through the season.
“Well, it fits, honestly, because we now have quotes and little things that have leaked out about how upset guys were about how hard they were being asked to work,” Danny replied. “It fits where people were looking around, seeing the regime is going to end, and sort of playing out the string – and their play since then reflects that. And the other part is, I’m not as bothered by these kinds of comments as some people are. Sweat is probably right, and two, I bet he probably likes the organization that just paid him $100 million. He’s in a honeymoon phase, but I buy it.”
Grant thinks there’s a little bit of truth to the thought that the culture is better in Chicago, and the recent play proves it, but…
“I also think it’s just easy after you move on to say something like this,” Grant said. “You’re complementing your new fans and your organization, and there’s no downside to throwing the last place under the bus.”
