Grant Paulsen's Five Things to Look For in Friday's Commanders preseason opener

As part of a full day of Commanders preseason opener previews, prediction, and chatter on 106.7 The Fan today, Grant & Danny asked what Commanders fans want to see and are looking for tonight.

“I don’t agree with those who finds these games irrelevant – I love these games,” Grant said. “We only get 20 of these games – 17 in the regular season and these three dress rehearsals – guaranteed.”

Danny has one general thing he wants to see for sure: guys on an island, like left guard Chris Paul going up against starting defensive tackles to see if he can handle it, or the young secondary one-on-one against top receivers to see if they can do it. He also wants to see how much different things look without Dan Snyder, which is a thought shared by probably 100 percent of Commanders nation.

Grant agreed with both, thinking perhaps you call plays in the preseason just to see if they can be successful and what certain people can do, since winning is secondary to progress – basically, give guys a chance to sink or swim.

And, Grant then gave his list of the five things he’s looking for:
-How comfortable does Sam Howell look in Eric Bieniemy's offense, and how well is he running it with his decision making?
-How will Chase Young look against a former Top 10 pick in Browns tackle Jedrick Wills?
-Does the offensive line look like it's coming together to be a group you can trust to protect Sam Howell?
-Which rookies have their first NFL moment?
-Can Dyami Brown show out like an improved veteran?

Take a listen above to hear Grant’s in-depth explanation for each item!
