Dan Snyder is about to receive a $6.05 billion check from Josh Harris’ ownership group, as the sale of the Commanders was unanimously approved by NFL owners on Thursday.
However, Snyder will need to save a chunk of that check to pay to the NFL.
Just moments after news broke that the sale had been approved at the league meetings in Minneapolis, the full findings of Mary Jo White’s investigation into Snyder and the Commanders were released, revealing that Snyder will have to pay $60 million to the league “in resolution of all outstanding matters.”
The report, which can be read in full here, found that, after more than 17 months of investigating, that Snyder sexually harassed a former team employee, sustaining allegations made by Tiffani Johnston, and that the Commanders withheld revenue that should have been shared with other NFL teams.
The investigation began back in 2022 when Johnston alleged that Snyder was inappropriate at a team dinner. Then, in April, Jason Friedman alleged financial improprieties in testimony to congress, to which the Commanders vehemently denied, stating that anyone suggesting otherwise under oath would be committing perjury. White’s investigation concluded that Friedman’s allegations were sustained, and Friedman has since sued the organization for defamation.
White found that the franchise withheld nearly $11 million in revenue that should have been shared with other teams.
“The conduct substantiated in Ms. White's findings has no place in the NFL,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said. “We strive for workplaces that are safe, respectful and professional. What Ms. Johnston experienced is inappropriate and contrary to the NFL's values.”
White was in attendance at Thursday’s league meeting in Minneapolis, briefing the league owners on her findings.
