“The preseason game Saturday was a lot of fun, and even Ron Rivera had to notice everyone did the wave.”
JP Finlay, supporter of the wave, railed on anti-wave dorks after making that statement above about the Commanders’ preseason game Saturday, but the point was that FedEx Field had a different atmosphere over two games last week than it has in…let’s say a quarter-century?
Especially, JP notes, down on the field.
“I usually bring my kids to the last preseason game because it’s the right speed, but I wanted to tell a quick story about something that was incredible…and at some point, I may not continue to be stunned by these moments,” JP said, thanking the Commanders for letting his family on the field, albeit with a twist this year: “But I saw the treasurer of Maryland down on the field, and apparently, he’s a listener of the show, so shout out to Dereck Davis.”
Indeed, huge government officials are actively involved with Commanders games now, as we’ve seen both the Virginia and Maryland governors around camp as well…and prior to meeting the treasurer, his older daughter met someone else who knows a lot about money.
“I’m working, and my four-year-old is nuts so I had a hand on her, but my eight-year-old knows what she’s doing – and I see her giving a high-five to a nicely-dressed man in a Commanders polo shirt,” JP said, before the big reveal: “It was Mitch Rales, the co-owner worth like $10 billion! He has younger kids, saw my kids, and wanted to say hi and enjoy the game. It had nothing to do with me and my work, just a nice person doing a nice thing.”
At some point, this will become the norm, as JP said, but for now, they are ‘so cool and a pleasant reminder that we don’t know what will happen this season, but by far, the biggest positive change that could happen with this team has happened.’
