There are rumors, which were Tweeted by a Barstool Sports podcast host, that he heard ‘whispers’ the Commanders could be trading Terry McLaurin.
The truth, according to JP Finlay via inside sources? “Zero truth to him being available.”
“Enough other people were trying to act like this was a thing, and sometimes when I know something is not a thing, the easiest thing to do is check in with someone, have them tell me that's not a thing, and then I can put that out and ideally that stops the silly stuff,” JP said. “It’s March 20, we're a month out from the draft, so there’s gonna be a lot of silly stuff. So I reached out to some folks and was told there is ‘zero truth’ to Terry McLaurin being available – and that should be pretty damn obvious, frankly – but now we could kind of settle that down.”
Even Jeff Walker, deep resident of Commanders Twitter, didn’t believe it and said ‘that space has been so overwhelming, just to read all of the arguing and bickering going on like everybody knows what's exactly going to work for the team.”
Overwhelming, and to JP, an actual media insider on the team, silly.
“Honestly, just from a contractual standpoint, they've signed 18 people now and have an absolute ton of cap space, and they have to maintain a salary floor too, so from a salary cap standpoint, I'm not even sure they could afford to not have Terry to be compliant with the rules,” JP said. “Not to mention you need him, not to mention he's your best player and a total culture builder, and you just did an extension. It’s all just so silly.”
