The Junkies discuss the alleged tampering violation with the Commanders and Andrew Luck

From the ‘you can’t make it up’ file, there was an ESPN report Saturday that last offseason, the Commanders apparently reached out to the retired Andrew Luck as they were looking to add a quarterback.

The now-33-year-old is still technically under contract to the Colts, who retain his rights if he un-retires, and Indy owner Jim Irsay Tweeted on Sunday, after the report came out, that any team that attempted to contact luck would be ‘in clear violation of the NFL’s tampering policy.’

So that begs the question: will the Commanders be investigated, and if so, what will happen if they’re found guilty of tampering?

“Do you think Washington didn’t know that was a rule?” Bish asked. “Because that’s ballsy and stupid.”

“I don’t think he has any inclination of coming back,” EB replied. “The ship has sailed, he ain’t coming back.”

JP noted how there’s a possibility the Commanders could be docked a draft pick if this all checks out – and there is precedent, as the Dolphins lost both a first-round draft pick and a third-round draft pick and saw owner Stephen Ross suspended after the NFL determined they tampered with Tom Brady and Sean Payton.

The Eagles and Cardinals also settled a tampering investigation with Jonathan Gannon on Draft Day, so maybe this is a quick play to get some compensation?

“I think there’s a reason Irsay fired off that Tweet: he’s looking for more draft picks,” producer Drab chimed in.

EB thinks that maybe the Commanders called the NFL to inquire about availability, but Cakes thinks “Ron can’t be that dumb” to just pick up the phone and call Luck or his agent.

“He’s gotta run that by the Martys and the business guys – someone has to stop him,” Cakes said.

“They’re desperate for a quarterback, though!” Bish shot back. “I think they must have known, but thought they were going to get away with it.”
