According to WaPo’s Nicki Jhabvala’s article from last weekend, Antonio Gibson is ‘on the cusp,’ as he can ‘provide the team with an alternative scenario as a pass catcher.’ We know that Gibson is going to be a third-down back this year, but is there potential for Gibson to be used as a receiver of sorts on other downs, allowing the Commanders to carry one less wideout to deepen other spots?
“I’m not buying it – I think he will be used even less,” JP said. “Brian Robinson will be the bell cow and they drafted Chris Rodriguez, and I think his total yardage will be less than last season, 899 total yards.”
“I’m ready to take on any bets on Antonio Gibson and overstate what his role will be in the offense,” Cakes replied. “I have to take the over on that – I’m a Gibby truther! He'll definitely lead the backfield in grabs, and I've been saying it for four years: wheels up for Gibby!"
