Doc Walker is filling in for Grant & Danny on Tuesday, but before he took the airwaves on 106.7 The Fan in the afternoon, he joined The Junkies for his usual Tuesday visit…and to him, the answer to the Howell vs. Brissett conundrum should ultimately lie with Josh Harris?
“It depends on what the owners want don at this point, and you have to hope the new owners are leading the charge,” Doc said. “You have to hope the new ownership group is leading the charge, because if it’s about draft position, it has to be business as usual. The 49ers are going to be in a bad mood and the Cowboys now can’t say they don’t need to win that game, so the race is on. I think the plan for keeping everything intact was for the draft pick, because that’s the only thing that makes sense. I can’t find a positive to stay stuck on stupid the way we have been, unless the ultimate goal was a draft pick.”
Regardless of how the next two weeks play out, though, what the hell has happened to Howell?
“When you’re young, you do hit a wall. I think he wants to do well, and he has arm talent, but if he doesn’t throw the ball, he loses his arm talent. It might as well be me or you,” Doc said. “Obviously he’s human, and confidence comes in with pressure, but the other guy comes in with experience, and he’s getting rid of the ball. So if you’re saying you want to build for the future, it would be nice to see Sam work through it, but obviously, he’s stuck.”
