JUNKIES: Ian Hartitz says Antonio Gibson, Brian Robinson could both be Top 24 fantasy running backs

Fantasy Football drafts are starting to take shape, so the Junkies welcomed in their buddy Ian Hartitz – formerly of PFF and now with Matthew Berry’s Fantasy Life – to discuss some things you’ll need to know for those drafts.

Like, say, they think both Brian Robinson AND Antonio Gibson could be Top 24 running backs in PPR leagues, now that Gibson has usurped third-down duties?

“It is rare but it does happen – last season the Lions and Cowboys had it, and right now, the Lions are the only one with two backs priced inside the Top 24,” Hartitz said. “In DC, even though J.D. McKissic wasn’t really dominating in fantasy, he did make things a three-back committee, and that hurt Gibson more than anyone. From 2020-22, only Ekeler, Kamara, and McCaffrey had more targets per game than McKissic, so it does seem like Gibson will finally get a chance to tap into that receiver prowess. And in Robinson’s case, the efficiency numbers weren’t great, but he also wasn’t 100 percent after coming back from a freaking gunshot wound!”

Of course, Chris Rodriguez could factor in and make Hartitz “look like an idiot,” but it seems two No. 1-caliber backs with bigger roles could pan out.

Both could work out in DC, but given the Lions’ situation, what should a fantasy owner do there with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs?

“Jamaal Williams had 14 of his 17 touchdowns from the two or closer, so I don’t disagree with Gibbs’ price tag, especially in PPR, but a 50-pick gulf between him and Montgomery is too wide for me, so I’d wait on him for the value,” Hartitz said. “Somewhere in Round 3 or 4 is where you can get those elite quarterbacks rather than a top running back with questions, especially since the Lions' offense may be a little overrated right now."

Take a listen to Hartitz’ entire call-in and fantasy suggestions above!
