JUNKIES: The Athletic's Mike Jones thinks the Commanders can be .500 or better

The NFL season is just seven days away, Chiefs-Lions kicking off the season on Thursday Night Football on Sept. 7 – but the Junkies ain't waiting, as they were joined by The Athletic's Mike Jones to go around the NFL before Week 1 starts in earnest.

When he did, EB had an interesting take: it seemed like "50 of the 53 spots on the Commanders roster were known," so there weren't really a lot of battles in camp.

"It's kind of interesting, but I think it's because of what they've been building for a while. They've got these pieces in place, and you could see who had established themselves and who were the young guys coming up," Jones said. "You could see by who was getting reps, and we'll have to see how it pans out, but hopefully they're building towards something. It'd be a shame if they weren't, but I think they have a chance."

That said, the Commanders' O/U of 6.5 might be an easy play, because this is a team that can go over.

"Eight games sounds about right, even though we don't know how Sam Howell is going to play, but there's reason to believe they have talent, and some players at a lot of positions," Jones said. "You can see who the difference-makers are, guys just have to stay healthy and it all has to come together."

One thing that can help that? The fans at FedEx being back in full force.

"I'm really curious what the energy around this team is going to be like now that the fan base is more invested," Jones said. "There has to be something that helps, so having that energy, you never know it's an extra drive or something, but everyone is ready for this team to take a step forward."

Take a listen to Jones' entire call-in above, including thoughts on Kyler Murray, Jonathan Taylor, and more!
