Ron Rivera has a new role as an ESPN analyst, and on Thursday, during a segment called “Riverboat Ron’s Bold Offseason Moves,” Rivera said the Giants should add either Kirk Cousins or Russell Wilson.
He also broke down the top three QBs in the draft, and, well, on Junkie is not impressed.
“I think he's good on TV in a sense that he speaks, okay, you know what I mean?” EB said. “He's a pleasant person, but I listened to this breakdown, and literally, Kevin McCarthy could have made the same pick. He could have made the same description; like, I'm not even sure he's ever seen these guys play. It’s the most generic nothing. I think Ron's one of those guys who just thinks he can show up and fake his way through stuff.”
“He called him Jalen Daniels!” Cakes laughed. “There's no chance he was watching them during this past season, because he knew he wasn't gonna be here helping contribute to the pick.”
“It’s hard to watch tape when you’re at Pebble Beach,” Valdez chimed in.
The Junks were playing the clips and having fun with it, like saying Drake Maye ‘is a prolific passer, but he needs work,’ and, yeah, not great Ron.
“I listened to this and I was screaming at my computer,” EB said. “I was like, ‘you're not saying anything!’ I think he’s so arrogant, he just fakes it.”
“Also, you're getting the opinion of a guy who couldn't have butchered the quarterback spot any worse during his four years here in Washington!” Cakes replied. “He bypassed Tua and Herbert to bring in Carson Wentz, and look, I know Carson Wentz endures a lot of abuse, and here's why I'll give Ron a slight pass on Carson: he was the best that they could actually acquire in his mind, because they knew they weren't getting Russell Wilson. The best decision he made at quarterback was picking Heinicke off the couch during the COVID season, and you're asking that guy to break down QBs?”
And the coup de grace: Rivera said the Commanders should select Daniels, this time called Jayden, because ‘he's the kind of guy that will fit what Kliff Kingsbury wants to do.’
“You should move him off your list because Ron is endorsing him,” Valdez said, an endorsement Cakes called ‘leading the witness.’
“Here’s the thing: I know he's endorsing him knowing nothing. He's just talking out of his butt and didn’t know what to say,” EB replied. “It's so funny because we've talked about it many times; through our entire career here, we've been mediocre and had every kind of coach, and all the other coaches that have come here and failed I still respect…but Ron destroyed this roster so much and he was such BS that I actually hate him. I just think he’s a big phony, up there faking everything.”
“He's just up there parroting kind of what they're talking about,” added Cakes. “He literally has nothing to add his analysis. The producers are gonna look at his tape and say, ‘he's a big name but he didn't really give us much here.’”
