The news broke while the Junkies were on air Friday: Sam Howell is officially the Washington Commanders’ starting quarterback, and will play a little bit Monday against the Ravens.
JP joked, opening up the second segment of the final hour of the show, by asking callers to chime in on if it’s the right decision, which EB had to yell “of course it is!”
“The only way I’d say isn’t is if he’s awful on Monday night,” JP said, to which EB replied: “Even then that’s only one small sample size.”
“Here’s why it’s potentially not the right decision: because Ron is really bad at making QB decisions since he’s been here,” Cakes then replied, to which EB’s retort was that “you can also argue he’s had bad choices.”
Cakes noted that it was Rivera’s decision to bring in guys like Carson Wentz and Ryan Fitzpatrick, so if he’s the guy in charge, he’s the one who will be judged by his choices.
“The question is how short the leash is,” Bish chimed in. “It may be longer than I think it is, but I’m still predicting he gets pulled. He has been better than I expected, but I don’t see practice.”
JP says he was ‘the original Sam Howell fan,’ but he’s skeptical of the in-season performance ‘based on how rookies and young quarterbacks play,’ so ‘I think he’ll struggle and they’ll be a seven or eight-win team.”
