Ron Rivera met the media on Tuesday after a day off Monday for Christmas, and players were mostly off, too – and so is the decision on who will be the quarterback on Sunday, because as Ron said in his presser, “once I get done discussing and make a decision, I’m not going to go into anything.”
And all Lynnell Willingham, joining Doc to fill in for Grant & Danny today, could say, was ‘wow.’
“That’s the, uh, current head coach of your Washington Commanders, but damn sure not the future leadr of the burgundy and gold,” Lynnell said. “Not trying to be a pile on artist here, but I want to apologize to Grant & Danny for wasting seven minutes of the program, because he said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!”
Doc & Lynnell played the entire presser, which was full of non-answers and deferrals, and Lynnell couldn't believe Ron was still doing that.
“He got up there and said nothing! It reeks of incompetence and flying by the seat of his pants,” Lynnell said. “One of the answers was ‘we’ll talk to who we need to talk to about that so they can give us the right information so we can decide.’ WHAT?”
“I’m sure glad I have you two gentlemen here, because you’re respected in this market and revered by many, but what did I say in our pre-show meeting? It’s all coach talk,” Doc replied. “I sat by the side of Coach Thompson for 12 years, and it was like going to MIT. He told me ‘an empty barrel makes the most noise, so hear nothing, say nothing.’ You said ‘let’s play Ron’ and I said for what? He does this every single time. Y’all keep listening!”
Lynnell and producer Darris Dameron could only concede Doc was right, but Lynnell was at least hoping for SOME clarity.
“I more so wanted to hear from him because I assumed we’d get an answer on quarterback,” Lynnell said, “but he said something to the effect of ‘we’ll make a decision later on in the week, but on Sundays, we’ll make a decision early.’ It’s hard to keep up with, I just can’t follow it anymore.”
