Josh Harris, Steve Apostolopoulos, and of course Jeff Bezos are reported bidders for the Washington Commanders, although rumors on Thursday brought out another name very well-known in sports: Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban.
That is, apparently, an untrue rumor, according to FOX Business News’ Charlie Gasparino.
“A lot is shrouded behind the scenes, and I hear the bidding is heating up, even as the league has strict rules in terms of equity, and some of these bids may not meet those rules of equity,” Gasparino said Wednesday afternoon on The Claman Countdown on FBN. “One name that was out there was Mark Cuban, who is very close to Dan Snyder, but I just texted Cuban and he said he’s not interested as of now. Usually, when he says something like that, he means it.”
Cuban, 64, is reportedly worth $5.1 billion according to Forbes’ 2023 research, and has owned the Mavericks since purchasing a majority share of the team from H. Ross Perot, Jr., in January 2000 for $285 million.
The Shark Tank star also has stakes in several small businesses through his participation on the show, and he is also the co-owner of 2929 Entertainment, an integrated media and entertainment venture, as well as a recently-launched pharmaceutical company called Cost Plus Drugs.
Harris, considered the leading bidder, is also a sports owner, as he and/or his company Harris Blitzer Entertainment holds ownership in the New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia 76ers.
