Mitchell Tinsley talks improbable road to Commanders roster with Grant & Danny

Undrafted rookie Mitchell Tinsley has been one of the best underdog stories out of Commanders camp this summer, making Washington's 53-man roster after a breakout performance in Saturday's preseason finale.

The wide receiver joined Grant and Danny on Thursday to look back on when he learned he was surviving cut day, and had indeed done enough to make the roster after many assumed he would be cut.

"It's kind of crazy," Tinsley said. "I walked into the facility on cut day, I'm walking in and went down to practice, and some of the coaches were coming up to me and saying 'congrats.' I called my practice and let them know I made it. It was a great feeling."

Still, it took Tinsley a lot of time before he felt comfortable enough to call his family and let them know that it was real, and he was going to start the season as a Commander.

"I got to the facility at 8:00 or 8:15, and probably got congratulations around 9:00," Tinsley said. "I waited until like 11:30 or 12:00 before we went out to practice to tell my mom and dad."

It was an unlikely outcome, at least in the eyes of many, but Tinsley said he was never sweating the prospect of getting cut from a strong Commanders receiver room.

"I wasn't really thinking about it," Tinsley said. "I knew I gave my all and put a lot of good tape out there…whatever was gonna happen was gonna happen. I was OK with it…and I was gonna be ready for the next step."
