NFL analyst Brian Baldinger takes a shot at Carson Wentz

NFL film analyst Brian Baldinger was notably dismissive of a statistic portraying Carson Wentz in a positive light, calling it "meaningless" while noting that the Washington Commanders quarterback has yet to prove that he can perform in the postseason.

Baldinger was responding to a news and stats aggregator, @NFL_Stats, which is not affiliated with the NFL, after the account tweeted that, in 2019, Wentz became the only quarterback in league history to throw for more than 4,000 yards without having a single receiver surpass the 500-yard threshold.

Indeed, of the three playoff seasons in which Wentz was on the Eagles (2017-2019), his play was limited to just two offensive series in a Jan. 2020 Wild Card game against the Seahawks, a game he departed in the first quarter with a concussion. The Eagles went on to lose that game with backup quarterback Josh McCown.

Worth noting, Wentz was a borderline MVP candidate that season, passing for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Wentz was also a legitimate MVP candidate in 2017, his second season in the league, when he finished third in MVP voting with 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Wentz famously missed the Eagles' 2017 Super Bowl run after suffering a torn ACL in Week 14, watching from the sideline as Nick Foles led Philadelphia to its first Super Bowl title in franchise history, also winning Super Bowl MVP after defeating the Patriots, 41-33.

In 2018, Wentz — after missing the first two regular-season games while still recovering from the ACL injury — started 11 games for the Eagles, going 5-6 with 3,074 passing yards, 21 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but was shut down for the final three weeks of the regular season with a back injury. Foles would lead the Eagles to a Wild Card victory over the Bears before losing to the Saints in the divisional round.

Wentz was traded by the Eagles two years after signing a four-year, $128 million contract extension with the team, a surprise at the time that netted Philadelphia a future first- and third-round pick. He was traded again, after only one season with the Colts, to the Commanders in March 2022.

Baldinger went on to reply to another commenter, confirming that no, Wentz has not, in fact, stolen his girl, explaining that his exuberance on the topic stems from Wentz's lack of postseason performance.

Wentz, 29, is entering what many have described as a make-or-break season, his first with the Commanders, as this may perhaps be his final shot to prove himself as an NFL starter.
